I.A.F.F. Local 955 & Uniontown Fire Department

Some images of the city we protect:

As you can see, Uniontown is home to a number of large buildings and has a fairly large downtown area. Uniontown is the county seat of Fayette County and contains a number of county offices, the courthouse, and county jail. Uniontown is home to a number of restaurants and shops in the downtown area, along with the State Theater Center for the Arts, and a number of professional offices. As you can imagine, the number of people in the city can be quite a bit during working week days, during shows or weekends, or during festivals. It is estimated that the population almost doubles during the working weekday.

Uniontown is also home to 12,422 people on a permanent basis. Our residential areas are densly populated, at a little over 6,000 people per square mile. There are a number of older homes and many of these homes sit very close together.

We also home to a large hospital, shopping center, a high school, 2 middle school/elementary schools, a kindergarten center, and 2 Christian schools. We are home to a number of churches, 2 manufactory facilities, numerous personal care homes or nursing centers, and many other higher hazard occupancies.

Uniontown is a beautiful old city with a rich heritage. However, this old city has a number of potential fire and life safety hazards as well. The fire department can answer the call of upwards to 1,000 calls for service each year. Adequate staffing and quick response, therefore, are vital! Where Uniontown for years has enjoyed the benefits of a combination paid/volunteer fire department, this benefit is now in jeopardy. Do we not owe the best possible fire protection to Uniontown's many residents, workers, and visitors?
